Radiator Replacement and Heating Balancing
We replace corroded or underperforming radiators and size each new one from the room and your intended flow temperature, not by copying the old panel. Every replacement finishes with the whole circuit rebalanced, so every room gets useful heat.
When replacement makes sense
If a radiator is leaking, badly corroded or simply too small for the room, replacing it is usually the right call. If it is just cold at the bottom or after bleeding, it may be a sludge or balancing problem instead. Our fault guides cover those, and a power flush may be the better fix.
Sized from the room
We record heat need, wall space, pipe centres and your finish preferences, then choose radiator types against real operating temperatures. You get an output schedule rather than visual guesswork. Wall construction and fixing strength decide the brackets and how heavy a radiator can go on that wall.
Older homes and odd pipe centres
Many Borders houses still have old imperial or non-standard pipe centres. We measure them before ordering, then either choose a radiator width that fits or make neat pipe adjustments agreed before work starts.
Getting ready for a heat pump
Heat pumps run at lower temperatures, so output is checked room by room at that flow temperature. We often find only a few radiators need upsizing, and only those are included.
Clean fitting and a balanced finish
On the day we:
- Protect floors and walls
- Adapt pipework and remove the old units
- Check valves and balance the whole system
Choosing a style
Once the output is right, the choice of style is yours: standard panels, column radiators suited to older Borders properties, or towel rails for bathrooms. We tell you which options meet the heat need of each room, so a radiator chosen for looks still heats the space properly.
If you are unsure whether a radiator needs replacing at all, we can check it first. Many cold radiators simply need bleeding, balancing or cleaning, and our guides walk through the simple checks you can make yourself before booking a visit. If only one or two rooms feel cold, we check whether the radiator is undersized or whether the circuit simply needs rebalancing, because the cheaper fix is often the right one.
Coverage
We are based in Kelso and replace radiators across the Scottish Borders and East Lothian.
Radiator Upgrades questions
Can I replace one radiator without changing the rest?
Yes, provided the new output and valve settings are considered within the existing circuit.
Do heat pumps always require larger radiators?
Not always. We calculate each room and often find only selected emitters need upsizing.
Can old pipe centres be reused?
Usually, using the right radiator width or neat pipe adjustments agreed before work starts.
Why balance the whole system?
A new radiator changes flow around the circuit, so valves are set to make sure every room still gets heat.
Can I choose column radiators or towel rails?
Yes. Once we know the heat each room needs, we show you which styles, including column radiators and towel rails, will meet it.
Will replacing radiators disrupt the house?
We protect floors and walls, drain down only what is needed, remove the old units and rebalance the system before we leave.
