Gas Cooker Installation and Gas Hob Fitting

We install and replace gas cookers and hobs after checking the appliance, kitchen layout and existing gas supply. Our Gas Safe registered engineer confirms the connection arrangement, ventilation and manufacturer's installation requirements before fitting. A freestanding cooker with a suitable bayonet connection is a different job from a hob connected through fixed gas pipework. Kitchen alterations and LPG appliances need their own checks, so send the model details and photographs before the work is agreed.

Before you order a replacement

Check the exact appliance model, fuel specification and installation instructions before buying. Similar-looking cookers can have different clearance, ventilation and connection requirements. For a hob, the worktop opening, worktop material and space beneath the appliance must also suit the manufacturer's instructions.

Photographs of the existing appliance, nearby cupboards, extractor and accessible gas connection help us assess the job. Tell us if the kitchen layout is changing or if the replacement has a different gas demand. An existing connection does not prove that the new appliance can use it unchanged.

Bayonet connections and fixed gas pipework

Some freestanding cookers use an appropriate flexible gas connector and bayonet fitting. We check the connector's suitability, condition and route, together with the appliance's required restraint and clearances. The hose must not be exposed to damaging heat, trapped behind the cooker or stretched when the appliance is positioned.

A built-in gas hob commonly connects through fixed gas pipework with an accessible isolation arrangement, following its instructions. This describes the gas connection, not an electrical hardwired connection. Ignition, lighting or an electric oven may need a separate electrical supply, which is assessed independently and is not assumed to be included in gas fitting.

Checks before the appliance is used

We check the gas installation as required for the work, make the connection and commission the appliance in accordance with its instructions. Relevant checks include gas tightness, operating conditions, burner operation and the safety devices fitted to that model. The appliance is not treated as ready simply because a flame appears.

Ventilation and the surrounding layout also matter. Cupboards, combustible finishes and extractors must respect the specified clearances. If the proposed position is unsuitable, we explain what needs changing rather than fit first and leave the problem for the kitchen installer.

Kitchen gas supply alterations

Moving a cooker or changing from a freestanding appliance to a separate hob can require pipework alterations. We assess the route, accessible isolation and whether the supply is suitable for the connected demand. Concealing pipework behind new units needs planning before the kitchen is finished.

Agree responsibilities for worktop cutting, cabinetry, electrical work and making good in advance. If the old gas appliance is being removed without an immediate replacement, the redundant supply needs to be left safely terminated. Moving the appliance yourself is not a substitute for arranging the gas work.

LPG cookers and hobs

An LPG installation depends on both appliance suitability and the engineer's scope of work. We need the model details and fuel information before confirming the job. A cooker intended for mains gas must not simply be connected to LPG because the fitting appears to match.

Where conversion is permitted, it must follow the manufacturer's instructions using the specified components, and the work must be within the engineer's relevant LPG competence. We confirm whether the appliance connection and any associated supply alterations can be undertaken before agreeing the installation.

Gas Cooker Installation and Gas Hob Fitting questions

Does a gas cooker have to be fitted by a Gas Safe engineer?

Arrange installation by a Gas Safe registered engineer qualified for that appliance and fuel. A bayonet connection does not remove the need to check appliance suitability, safe installation conditions and correct operation.

Can you move my gas pipe for a new kitchen?

We can assess the proposed alteration and confirm the scope. Share the kitchen plan before units are fitted so pipe routing, isolation and coordination with other trades can be resolved while access remains available.

Can you fit an LPG hob?

Subject to the appliance being suitable and the work being within the engineer's relevant LPG scope. Provide the exact model and fuel details before booking. Any permitted conversion must follow the manufacturer's instructions.
